Bailey Smith, a pilot, with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 211, Marine Aircraft Group 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, explains the functions of an F-35B Lightning II aircraft to Japan Air Self-Defense Force cadets during an installation tour at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, June 18, 2025. During their visit, JASDF cadets learned about the installation’s capabilities and were shown various aircraft including, KC-130J Super Hercules aircraft, and F-35 Lightning II aircraft. VMFA-211, an F-35B squadron from MCAS Yuma, Arizona, deployed to augment MAG-12, 1st MAW under the Unit Deployment Program, which provides U.S.-based units with operational experience in the Indo-Pacific.
