    USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7)

NORFOLK (June 13, 2025) Capt. Brian Hamel, the outgoing commanding officer of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), addresses the crew and honored guests during Iwo Jima’s Change of Command ceremony where Hamel is relieved by Capt. Richard Haley as commanding officer of Iwo Jima. The change of command ceremony is a traditional Navy ceremony where the ship's crew witness the transfer of power from the commanding officer to the prospective commanding officer. Iwo Jima is the flagship of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Readiness Group, a force uniquely positioned to deter aggression, project power through presence abroad, and execute contingency missions with its integrated Marine Corps team in support of U.S. strategic interest.
