1st Lt. Matthew Bartlo, one of the Army's newest first lieutenants and physician assistants, returns a salute from Sgt. 1st Class Johnny Gliss, a former co-worker from the 10th Special Forces Group. It is traditional for new Army first lieutenants to choose an enlisted member to offer their first salute in exchange for a silver dollar. Bartlo was one of four IPAP students who graduated from the Interservice Physician Assistant Program at Evans Army Community Hospital on June 6, 2025. IPAP is a rigorous and demanding 29-month program that offers a unique opportunity for enlisted soldiers to transition into the medical field as commissioned officers and Physician Assistants.
