Staff Sgt. Daryl Harper, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Drill Sergeant, pushes onward during the 10-mile ruck march on the final day of the Sustainment Center of Excellence 2025 Drill Sergeant of the Year competition at Fort Gregg-Adams, Va. on May 15, 2025. Aside from merely having to carry their assigned weapons and 50-pounds of gear for 10-miles, each of the mile check points the competitors had to demonstrate their knowledge of Warrior Tasks & Battle Drills such as: dawning a pro-mask, perform functions check on an M4 Rifle, and determine a grid coordinate on a military map.
