U.S. sailors and Marines with the Mustang Association serve service members during a New Year's Day steel beach picnic aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu (LHA 5) Jan. 1, 2013, in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility. Mustangs are officers who rose through the enlisted ranks before earning their commissions. The Peleliu, the flagship of the Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group, was deployed to the region with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit to conduct maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts.
