Soldiers assigned to the U.S. Army’s Program Executive Office Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) participate in a final Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) on May 20 prior to the implementation of the new Army Fitness Test (AFT) on June 1. The ACFT consists of deadlifts, push-ups, planks, ball throws, a sprint-drag-carry and a two-mile run, and has been the Army standard since Oct. 1, 2022. The new AFT will consist of the three-repetition maximum deadlift, hand-release push-up arm extension, sprint-drag-carry, plank, and two-mile run. Phased implementation of the AFT begins next month at PEO STRI and across the Army, with new sex-neutral, age-normed scoring standards for Soldiers in 21 combat military occupational specialties taking effect on Jan. 1, 2026, for the active component and June 1, 2026, for the Reserve and National Guard.
