JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii — Chief Navy Diver Eric Stephenson, from Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 1 leading chief petty officer, and originally from Boston, conducts a survey of the mooring platforms attached to the deck of USS Arizona July 19, 2024. The platforms, which were attached to the ship following the attack on Pearl Harbor, were used by Navy divers to facilitate salvage operations of the vessel’s main guns and other equipment needed for the war effort. The Navy plans to remove the platforms in 2025 to prevent possible damage to the USS Arizona, its memorial and the environment. (U.S. Navy photo by Chief Mass Communication Specialist Kathleen Gorby)
