U.S. Marine Corps Col. William J. Mitchell, center, the commanding officer of Marine Aircraft Group 11, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, awards the Meritorious Service Medal to Lt. Col. Michael P. Fisher, the outgoing commanding officer of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 311, MAG-11, during a change of command ceremony at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, May 9, 2025. The change of command ceremony signifies the transition to new leadership and a continuation of the unit’s constant preparedness to fight and win. VMFA-311 was reactivated in 2023 as the Marine Corps’ second F-35C Lightning II squadron, and under the leadership of Lt. Col.
