May drill represented several changes in the leadership of the Montana National Guard. On May 2, 2025, Command Sgt. Maj. Peter Benning relinquished responsibility of the 190th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion to Command Sgt. Maj. Matthew Nilan at the Billings Armed Forces Reserve Center. The next day, Command Sgt. Maj. Troy Sloss relinquished responsibility of the 208th Regional Training Institute to Command Sgt. Maj. Benning at Fort Harrison, Mont.
The passing of the guidon signifies holding the weight of the unit in your hands and the responsibility for its Soldiers. We thank our outgoing leaders and wish the incoming leaders the best of luck in their new positions.
