Shawn Miller, a wildlife conservation photographer, displays a “Make The Switch 4 Nature” seashell during his class on Okinawan wildlife on Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan, April 26, 2025. Miller, a Virginia native, noticed a hermit crab had taken on a piece of plastic waste as its shell in Okinawa. To save and preserve hermit crabs, he started the MTS4N campaign where he leaves a non-harmful marking on seashells to discourage visitors and foreigners from taking home seashells from Okinawa’s beaches.
