Sergeant Douglas A. Vogel, machine gunner, Combined Anti-Armor Team I, Weapons Company, Battalion Landing Team 3/5, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, works out aboard USS Rushmore, March 29. Vogel, 24, is from Littleton, Colo. He joined the Marine Corps to make a better person out of himself and he liked the Marine Corps lifestyle. To pass time while deployed, Vogel teaches and mentors his Marines, reads and works out. His favorite part of the deployment was training in Saudi Arabia during a theater security cooperation exercise. He looks forward to going home to meet his newborn daughter. The 15th MEU is deployed as part of the Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group as a U.S. Central Command theater reserve force, providing support for maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
