U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Robert C. Ortiz, communications sergeant and short term individual augment, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, utilizes a harness and rope system to excavate a unit during recovery operations in Vietnam, March 15, 2025. The recovery team excavated units in an active body of water, on a steep incline, and in erratic weather conditions during this iteration; several methods and unique pieces of equipment were used to mitigate delay in operations and safety concerns whilst working. Both the organic DPAA team members and the short-term individual augments, combined their knowledge and skills to propel progress in achieving the fullest possible accounting during the 50-day recovery mission.
