Fern Sumpter Winbush, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency principal deputy director, left, meets Susan Creed Percy, middle, wife of Lt. Cmdr. Barton S. Creed, who was killed in action during the Vietnam War, and her granddaughter, right, at the National Vietnam War Veterans Day ceremony at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Washington D.C., March 29, 2025. On this day, marking the disestablishment of the United States Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, and the departure of the final U.S. combat troops from Vietnam in 1973, the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration hosted this year’s ceremony. The main display featured three wreaths and concluded with a moment of silence to honor all veterans who served in the Vietnam War, as well as their families, for their service, dedication, and sacrifice. After the event, Sumpter Winbush assisted Percy with finding her husband’s name on the Vietnam Memorial Wall and arranged for an etching to honor his memory. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt.
