(March 27, 2025) – The future USS Iowa (SSN 795) - currently a pre-commissioning unit (PCU) completing acceptance trials from shipbuilder Electric Boat - arrives to Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut, March 27, 2025. SSN 797, the first submarine and third U.S. Navy vessel named for the Hawkeye state, is scheduled to commission during a ceremony in Groton on April 5, 2025. Iowa and crew operate under Submarine Squadron (SUBRON) 4, whose primary mission is to provide fast-attack submarines that are ready, prepared, and committed to meet the unique challenges of undersea combat and deployed operations in unforgiving environments across the globe.
