Marine veteran Sgt. Gabriel Martinez, 24, from Golden, Colo., races toward the finish of the men’s 100-meter at the 2013 Marine Corps Trials aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., March 5. Martinez, a bilateral amputee, was injured from an improvised explosive device while conducting a route clearance patrol on Thanksgiving Day, 2010. Martinez was serving as a combat engineer attached to 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment at the time of his injury. Martinez and 49 other wounded, ill and injured Marines will go on to represent the Corps at the 2013 Warrior Games. The All-Marine Warrior Games Team will go head to head against the other branches of the Armed Forces May 11-17, at the Olympic Training Center and the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
