Brig. Gen. Rafal Kowalik, 1st Cavalry Division deputy commanding general of operations, prepares to board an AH-64 Apache before a familiarization flight on Forward Operating Site Powidz, Poland, Nov. 25, 2024. As part of the Polish Apache Initiative, this meeting expanded senior leadership’s understanding of the modern aviation systems in use by the 1st Cavalry Division and provided first-hand experience to gain understanding of the helicopter's operational capabilities, enhance decision-making related to aviation support, and connect with the challenges and perspectives of the aircrew. The Polish Apache Initiative, implemented by V Corps in collaboration with the Polish Army, seeks to meet interoperability and training objectives by educating organizational leaders on AH-64 organizations, combat tactics and maintenance considerations.
