In 1982, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original opening of Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, a logotype based on the Roman numerals "XL" was developed to serve as a visual reminder of the value placed upon individual excellence in duty performance and is used as the tail flash on aircraft assigned to the 47th Flying Training Wing.
