Lt. Col. Max Ferguson, right, and Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel Burns, the commander and senior enlisted advisor, respectively, to 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, render a salute after placing a wreath at the foot of the Military Mountaineers Monument at Memorial Park on Fort Drum, New York, Oct. 8, 2024. Afterward, 2-14 IN Soldiers, veterans, and family members participated in the Mogadishu Mile to honor those who fought and died during the Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia during Operation Restore Hope. The original mile was a route taken by Soldiers from a Black Hawk helicopter crash site to a rally point held by the 10th Mountain Division on National Street during the Battle of Mogadishu on October 4, 1993. The U.N. armored convoy that came to their rescue could not seat all the Soldiers, forcing them to return on foot while fending off ambushes along the way. “During this run today, this whole day - Dragon Heritage Day - think about all the service our forefathers, our brothers and sisters, have done up to this point,” Ferguson said. “I want you to think about that and where we came from, who we are, what it means to be a Golden Dragon, and to think about where we’re going next.” (U.S. Army photo by Spc.
