Quartermaster Chief Petty Officer Todd Marriott, assistant navigator aboard the Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Savannah (LCS 28) embarked aboard USS Kansas City (LCS 22), takes a celestial measurement with a sextant, Sept. 19, 2024. Celestial navigation measures the angle between the horizon and the sun resulting in the ship’s estimated position. Kansas City is underway in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of operations conducting Surface Warfare Advanced Tactical Training (SWATT).
