In January and February 2024, The University of Illinois at Chicago’s Center for the Recovery and Identification of the Missing (UIC-CRIM), partner of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), surveyed in the Republic of the Philippines for possible World War II era crash sites in an effort to recover service members still missing from the conflict. In the photo, archaeologists from UIC conduct test excavations in the Republic of the Philippines. Pictured are Jessica Bishop (UIC) and Sharina Aggarao (National Museum) screening in foreground, Rick Elliott (UIC) in test pit in center, and Melchor Lagamayo (National Museum) using water from the small stream in the ravine for water screening, February 17, 2024 (Photographer James Meierhoff with UIC).
