The 39th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Eric M. Smith, Lt. Gen. Roger B. Turner, the III Marine Expeditionary Force Commanding General, Rear Adm. Christopher D. Stone, the Task Force 76/3 Commander, pose alongside the 20th Sergeant Major of Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Carlos A Ruiz, and senior enlisted leadership, during a visit aboard the amphibious assault ship the USS America (LHA 6) in the Korea Strait, Sept. 7, 2024. This visit gave the Commandant an opportunity to discuss 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit operations and recognize the hard work and dedication of the Marines and sailors on patrol. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force, ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premiere crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
