The 39th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Eric M. Smith, left, congratulates Cpl. Christian Anthony, a combat cargo Marine with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, during a visit aboard the amphibious assault ship the USS America (LHA 6) in the Korea Strait, Sept. 7, 2024. This visit gave the Commandant an opportunity to discuss 31st MEU operations and recognize the hard work and dedication of the Marines and sailors on patrol. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force, ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premiere crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
