NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia (Aug. 28, 2024) - Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro greets Sailors aboard the Ford-class aircraft carrier Pre-Commissioning Unit John F. Kennedy (CVN 79), Aug. 28, 2024. During the ship visit, Secretary Del Toro, alongside Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su and Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), saw firsthand how important the maritime industrial base workforce is for the construction of the world’s most technologically-advanced Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier. John F. Kennedy is the second Ford-class aircraft carrier and is under construction at HII's Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division in Newport News, Virginia.
