U.S. Soldiers assigned to 2nd Battalion, 59th Aviation Troop Command, South Carolina National Guard, and first responders prepare themselves and their equipment in order to perform rescue operations during Tropical Storm Debby, South Carolina National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility, location 2, Greenville, South Carolina, Aug. 7, 2024. The South Carolina National Guard provides Army Aviation support to local authorities and responders across South Carolina with cargo, command and control-situational awareness (C2-SA), and rescue helicopters. Specifically, South Carolina Army National Guard CH-47F Chinook helicopters provide aerial heavy-cargo capabilities, whereas UH-60L Black Hawk and UH-72A/B Lakota helicopters are assigned to search and rescue (SAR), damage assessment, and C2-SA support. Specifically, the SAR mission is performed by crews and helicopters assigned to the South Carolina Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team (SC-HART). SC-HART is a collaborative effort between the South Carolina Army National Guard and the South Carolina State Urban Search and Rescue Task Force (SC-TF1), Office of the State Fire Marshal. The South Carolina Army National Guard contributes to the program with instructors, crews, support personnel, UH-60s and UH-72s helicopters; all military personnel and aircraft are assigned to the 59th Aviation Troop Command of the South Carolina Army National guard.
