Italian army Col Giuseppe Milano, Italian Base commander, gives a speech during the ceremony to honor the sacrifice of the 442nd Combat Regiment, composed almost entirely of second-generation American soldiers of Japanese descent, also known as the NISEI Battalion. The event takes place in front of the monument of Pvt. Masato Nakae a NISEI hero. He was awarded the Medal of Honor and the Purple Heart for his heroism on August 19, 1944, near Pisa, Italy.
