Participants and panelists participating in the Talent Management from the Ground Up: A Department of Defense Innovation Challenge meet at the Pentagon in Arlington, Va., April 25, 2024. Hosted by Hon. Ashish Vazirani, performing the Duties of Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, and Hon. Ronald Keohane, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy, nine teams of finalists will present their innovative ideas to a panel of Senior Executives. Launched in August 2023, the DoD 2040 Task Force (D2T) innovation challenge solicited innovative ideas that elevate talent management with special consideration to the recruiting, retention, and promotion of a diverse workforce. Given the Department’s recruiting and retention crisis in recent years, the need for novel and creative ideas to address talent management priorities has gained a new spotlight. The challenge provided the DoD an opportunity to hear directly from Service members and civilians at all levels who are closest to the pain points and gain insights from their ingenuity, promising ideas, or innovative solutions to talent management challenges across the DoD.
