    U.S. Air Force Maj. Richard Loesch, 12th Flying Training Wing instructor pilot, performs the last pre-flight safety check of the T-1 Jayhawk, memorializing the late Maj. Jeff Ausborn, prior to the aircraft’s departure to its final resting place at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base boneyard, Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, April 25, 2024. Ausborn was deployed from JBSA-Randolph and killed April 27, 2011, in Kabul, Afghanistan, when a shooter opened fire at the Kabul International Airport, killing eight Airmen and one American contractor. Ausborn was a senior pilot, having logged more than 2,300 hours in airlift and trainer aircraft to include the T-37B, T-44, C-130E, T-6A, T-1A and C-27. (U.S. Air Force photo by Jonathan R. Mallard)
