U.S. Marine Corps U.S. Marine Corps 1st Lt. Patrick Bankston, an infantry officer with Battalion Landing Team 1/1, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, establishes communications during a helicopter raid exercise at Ie Shima, Okinawa, Japan, Feb. 2, 2024. The exercise simulated taking control of an enemy airfield and supporting further denial operations. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of USS America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
