YOKOSUKA, Japan (December 31, 2023) - The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force ship JS Kirishima (DDG 174) is fully illuminated during Yokosuka Countdown 2024 near the City of Yokosuka's downtown Verny Park just outside the installation's main gate Sunday, December 31, 2023. Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka base community members joined local residents at the seven-hour party hosted by the city that included live music, stage performances, a food park, and was highlighted by illuminated Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force ships sounding their steam whistles celebrating the start of of the new year, a local tradition.
