The star-spangled kangaroo painted onboard Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Canberra (LCS 30) while in her homeport of San Diego, Dec. 11, 2023. Homeported in San Diego as a part of Littoral Combat Ship Squadron 1, USS Canberra was commissioned at the Royal Australian Navy’s Fleet Base East in Sydney, July 22, and is the first U.S. warship to commission overseas. LCS like USS Canberra integrate with joint, combined, manned and unmanned teams to support forward presence, maritime security, sea control, and deterrence missions around the globe.
