U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pacific Ocean Division Commander Brig. Gen. Kirk Gibbs visited Maui, Hawaiʻi, Thanksgiving week to inspect progress on the Hawaiʻi Wildfires federal response mission and to visit with the mission's first responders. Gibbs traveled to Lahaina Nov. 22, 2023, where he had lunch with Emergency Field Office staff. Here he chats with EFO Office Engineer Deanna Pienaar and Mission Zone Manager Leonard Bakker. USACE is a part of the combined federal, state, and local response to the Aug. 8, 2023, wildfires that swept through Kula and Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii.
