A delegation of T-Patch Soldiers from the 36th Infantry Division joined city officials and citizens of Paestum, Italy, to release a wreath into the Tyrrhenian Sea in commemoration of the people of Paestum who were killed, injured and captured during the occupation of German Forces during World War II on Sept. 9, 2023. Arrowhead Division commanding general, Maj. Gen. Win Burkett, Division Command Sgt. Maj. Jose Escobedo, a 36th Inf. Div. a color guard team, and representatives from each historic unit under the division were in attendance for the 80th anniversary of Operation Avalanche. Operation Avalanche was a series of military operations during World War II. The most famous and significant Operation Avalanche took place on September 9, 1943, when the Allied forces, primarily composed of American troops from Texas and British troops, landed on the Italian mainland as part of the larger Allied invasion of Italy.
