A Lao citizen tells U.S. Army Maj. Philip Castaneda, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) medical outreach doctor, about medical issues she is having during a medical outreach event on a recovery mission in Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Sept. 2, 2023. U.S. military personnel provided a variety of medication to Lao citizens that varied based off of their medical needs. Since 1985, the United States and Lao governments have worked closely together to find and recover unaccounted-for personnel. There are still 288 missing personnel in Laos from the Vietnam War.
