Noble Schermerhorn, a company commander with 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, fires an M18 service pistol during a live-fire range for the division’s first company commander course at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Aug. 22, 2023. The course, which will be held twice a year, is designed to better prepare incoming captains for company and battery command. Schermerhorn is a native of Deerfield, Illinois.
