The Coast Guard was working in conjunction with local and federal agencies to provide security and assist in recovery operations in New York and New Jersey in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Hurricane Sandy formed in the Western Caribbean Sea and affected Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and the Bahamas before making landfall in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
