Command Sgt. Maj. Robert Winzenried (left) and Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV speak with Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey at the Regional Operations and Intelligence Center at the State Police Headquarters here Nov. 3. The leaders spoke about the Department of Defense’s partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the "whole of government" response to Hurricane Sandy. Caldwell visited the site to meet with Col. Barrett Holmes to discuss the state’s emerging needs, which may require Department of Defense assistance. Caldwell is the commanding general of U.S. Army North (Fifth Army) and senior commander, Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis, Texas. Winzenried is the senior enlisted leader for North American Aerospace Defense Command and United States Northern Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. Holmes is the defense coordinating officer for Army North’s Region IV Defense Coordinating Element. Also visiting the site were U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Michael Cunniff, New Jersey adjutant general, and Command Sgt. Maj. David Wood, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army). Army North is the Joint Force Land Component Command for U.S. Northern Command.
