Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV (left) speaks with Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey and U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Michael Cunniff at the Regional Operations and Intelligence Center at the State Police Headquarters here Nov. 3. Caldwell spoke with them about the Department of Defense’s partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the "whole of government" response to Hurricane Sandy. Caldwell visited the site to meet with Col. Barrett Holmes to discuss the state’s emerging needs, which may require Department of Defense assistance. Caldwell is the commanding general of U.S. Army North (Fifth Army) and senior commander, Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis, Texas. Holmes is the defense coordinating officer for Army North’s Region IV Defense Coordinating Element. Cunniff is the New Jersey adjutant general. Also visiting the site were Command Sgt. Maj. David Wood, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), and Command Sgt. Maj. Robert Winzenried, North American Aerospace Defense Command and United States Northern Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.
