U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Ian Voss, company commander with Headquarters Company, 9th Communication Battalion, I Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group, pays his respects to retired U.S. Marine Corps Col. Harry E. Sexton, who was his great uncle, during his funeral in Lake Elsinore, California, March 10, 2023. Sexton honorably served 26 years and flew more than 400 combat missions during the Vietnam War. As commanding officer of Marine Light Helicopter Squadron (HML) 367, callsign “Scarface,” in 1970, he was one of the first commanders of an AH-1G Cobra squadron. Sexton was awarded the Navy Cross for his heroism during Operation Tailwind as he and his fellow Scarface Cobra Gunships engaged the enemy to provide cover for the exfiltration of a nearly overwhelmed force of U.S. Army Special Operators out of Laos. Sexton's awards include the Navy Cross, 2 Legion of Merits with Combat V, Distinguished Flying Cross, (44) Air Medals/Strike Flight Awards. Voss is a Newport Beach, California, native and Sexton was a Laguna Beach, California, native. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Sean Potter)
