Corporal Gabriel S. Guzman, a reconnaissance man serving with 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, receives the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal during a ceremony here, Oct. 22, 2012. Guzman, a 20-year-old native of Riverside, Calif., was awarded for aiding severely injured victims of a vehicle accident on June 8, 2012. Guzman was travelling with other Marines in Dougherty County, Ga., when they witnessed a head-on collision directly in front of them on Alabama Highway 165. Without hesitation, Guzman and other Marines pulled over and administered first aid. Together, they treated three victims suffering from burns, a neck injury and severe bleeding. Local law enforcement confirmed one victim would have likely died without the Marines’ assistance.
