Alaska Native people from the North Slope Borough dance with U.S. Air Force Airmen from Alaskan NORAD Region, Alaskan Command and Eleventh Air Force (Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson) during Kivgiq at Barrow High School, Utqiagvik, Alaska, Feb. 3, 2023. Kivgiq is an ancient Iñupiaq tradition, which unites North Slope communities in a celebration of Native dance and fellowship. The Airmen visited Utqiagvik for a site visit of Point Barrow Long Range Radar Site, as well as to engage with the whaling community of Utqiagvik, whose welcoming and continued support of the military makes the Point Barrow mission possible.
