U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 1/4, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and soldiers with the 1st Regimental Landing Team, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, take part in a bilateral sniper live-fire exercise at Hijudai, Japan on Feb. 21, 2023. The bilateral exercise was conducted to increase proficiency and understanding of each other’s weapon systems as part of Iron Fist 23. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the JGSDF, and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
