Testing the depth of metal wastage caused by corrosion on the fantail of the Self Defense Test Ship are Eric Haseltine (left) and Chris Gilbert of Los Angeles-based Magnetic Wave, a division of Discovery Democracy, on Aug. 24 as part of the Repair Technology Exercise, or REPTX, sponsored by Naval Sea System Command and hosted by Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD). The Magnetic Wave device uses a handheld wand to measure the depth of metal wastage and provides a digital readout on the accompanying device, which has its own internal power source. NSWC PHD is a field activity of NAVSEA and is located at Naval Base Ventura County in California. (U.S. Navy photo by Teri Carnicelli/Released)
