220801-N-YQ181-1028 PHILIPPINE SEA (Aug. 1, 2022) Aerographer’s Mate Airman Apprentice Melvin Thimlar, from Middlebury, Indiana, conducts maintenance on an air tight door in the hangar bay of the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) while underway in the Philippine Sea, Aug. 1. Ronald Reagan’s tiger teams are tasked with ensuring the material condition readiness of every door, hatch, scuttle, ladder well, and battle lantern aboard the ship. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the United States, and supports alliances, partnerships and collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
