CAMP LEMONNIER, Djibouti (June 15, 2022) Lt. Nicholas Butler, fuels officer on Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti (CLDJ) coordinates with Marvin Hall, fuels contractor manager, KBR Inc., as a U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 163 arrives to receive the first hot refueling, a bulk fuel technique of replenishing fuel while the engine of an aircraft is running, performed on CLDJ. Proof of hot refueling capability in Djibouti demonstrated the capacity to reduce refueling time by 66 percent, a substantial increase in aircraft readiness.
