Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Southeast Commanding Officer Capt. Miguel Dieguez presents NAVFAC Southeast Executive Officer Capt. Thomas Bestafka with the Legion of Merit medal (Gold Star in Lieu of the Second Award) for his dynamic leadership and relentless commitment to excellence while serving as the NAVFAC Southeast Executive Officer. Bestafka oversaw $2.5 billion of construction, $1.3 billion facilities services, and more than 12,000 contract actions, and he led over Existence and Completeness Real property inventories that validated over 10,000 buildings and structures, utility linear segments, and 3,700 utility assets, deeming the areas as “audit ready” or low risk and earned the Fiscal Year 2021 Chief of Naval Operations Safety Award, Medium Industrial category.
