Maj. Kyle Schafer, 22nd Operations Group KC-46A Pegasus pilot, carries the hose of an R-11 refueling truck for the first overseas KC-46A hot pit refuel at Yokota Air Base, Japan, June 10, 2022. Hot pit refueling uses a single-point refuel pump, allowing an aircraft to be refueled immediately after landing, with the engine running. This procedure is more frequently used with fighter jets, but is newer to the KC-46A, making it essential to practice and increase capabilities available to the Pacific Air Forces.
