The Green Latrine, shown here during an Air Force civil engineer leadership tour of the 9700 Area at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, April 20, 2022, is a retrofitted containerized bathroom system capable of operating with off-grid power. To date, the system has been used to test the operation and performance of a small waste-oil fueled boiler that provides hot water for the onboard sink and shower. The Green Latrine allows the AFCEC Readiness Lab to conduct testing and demonstrate of existing expeditionary assets with renewable energy to measure energy efficiency and fuel savings.
