220401-N-XN177-1076 PACIFIC OCEAN (April 1, 2022) – An MV-22 Osprey aircraft attached to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 362 lands aboard amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli (LHA 7), April 1. VMM-362 transported Maj. Gen. Bradford Gering, commanding general of 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing to Tripoli for a tour and to observe the U.S. Marine Corps’ Lightning carrier concept demonstration. The Lightning carrier concept demonstration shows Tripoli and other amphibious assault ships are capable of operating as dedicated fixed-wing carrier platforms, capable of bringing fifth generation Short Takeoff/Vertical Landing aircraft wherever they are required.
