Documents from the early 1960s show Arnold Engineering Development Complex, then Center, provided engineering analysis and materials testing to support the U.S. Air Force bobsled team as they vied for a spot in the 1964 Winter Olympics. AEDC was asked to fabricate runners, the skate-like blades on which bobsleds slid, for the Air Force’s two-man and four-man bobsleds, prompting the AEDC examination of the equipment.
