U.S. Air Force Airmen assigned to the 735th Air Mobility Squadron unload parts of a Granular Activated Carbon water filtration system are unloaded from a C-17 Globemaster III at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, Dec. 16, 2021. The filtration system, which uses granular carbon, is designed to remove contaminants in the water, including petroleum-based products. The JBPHH water quality recovery is a joint U.S. military initiative working closely with the State of Hawaii, Department of Health, Honolulu Board of Water Supply, U.S. government and independent organizations to restore a safe water delivery system to JBPHH military housing communities through testing, treatment, and repair.
